There’s so much information that is on the internet about weight loss and claiming that their diets will help you lose weight the fastest. The truth is if you see anything claiming that, it is probably false! It’s important to not get into yoyo dieting and understand the physiology of weight loss. I thought I would share my top 3 weight loss myths that I hear all the time.
❌ YOU CAN SPOT REDUCE FAT.
This is probably one of the biggest myth out there about weight loss – that you can pick and choose where you lose weight depending on the exercises you do. Crunches aren’t going to help you lose weight in your stomach area, similarity squats won’t lose weight in your leg area. Where you lose weight first depends on your genetics but to lose weight in a specific area you need to reduce your overall body fat %!
❌ CARDIO IS THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT.
Again, this is a BIG FAT lie. Yes, it is an effective way to lose weight but it is not the only way. And in my opinion, it is not the preferred method. If you want to lose weight and keep the weight off then I believe resistance training is more important. Why? Because when you train with weights, you build muscle. More muscle mass = higher resting metabolic rate, which means you will burn more when doing nothing!
❌ YOU HAVE TO CUT OUT EVERYTHING UNHEALTHY TO LOSE WEIGHT.
Weight loss is about sustainability. If you can’t keep the weight off 3 months from now then what’s the point? If you cut out everything unhealthy and go into a very restrictive diet, you will begin to have a very unhealthy relationship with food. And chances are, you will end up craving and binging on those foods. Try to eat intuitively actively processing what you are eating and putting in your body. Find your balance!
